Carlo ALFANO

(Napoli, 1932 - Napoli, 1990)

Biography

Painter and sculptor, he studied in Naples. Since he was young he was interested in Music and Philosophy, and his work looks at philosophers such as Wittgenstein, Foucault and other XX Century masters.

After his first steps as a painter in Informel, from the 60's Alfano pursued an analytical investigation of perception and vision.

He faced up researches related to three-dimensionality, and then arrived to an analysis conceptual field, in which the canvas became mirror of a fragmented perception of both the self and of the otherness.

In 2001 Castel Dell'Ovo, in Naples, dedicated a great retrospective to his work. In 2018 MART in Rovereto dedicated another retrospective exhibition to his research.
