Kate GOTTGENS
(Durban, 1965)

Biografia

Kate Gottgens è nata nel 1965 a Durban, in Sud Africa.

Ha studiato alla Michaelis School of Fine Art presso la University of Cape Town. Dal 1988 ha partecipato a mostre collettive in Sud Africa e all'estero, tra cui l' ottava edizione della Triennale di New Delhi, in India, nel 1994. La sua prima mostra personale è del 1993.
Gottgens ha vinto l'Ampersand Fellowship Award, che le ha permesso di fare una residenza a New York, dopo la quale il suo lavoro è stato incluso nella collettiva Ampersand Foundation Award 21 years celebration exhibition curata da Gordon Froud alla University of Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) a Johannesburg. è stata l'unica artista sudafricana inclusa nella pubblicazione di Thames and Hudson 100 Painters of Tomorrow, nel 2014.

Smac gallery ha pubblicato due cataloghi sul suo lavoro, Kate Gottgens Paintings 2007 – 2015 e Gottgens. Paintings 2015 – 2017, in occasione di due mostre personali, Infinite Loop a Stellenbosch (2015) e Tired from smiling a Cape Town (2017).
