Kudzanai-Violet Hwami è nata a Guti (Zimbabwe) nel 1993. Ha vissuto in Sud Africa e a 17 anni si è trasferita in Inghilterra, dove ha frequentato il Wimbledon College of Art laureandosi in Fine Arts nel 2016. lo stesso anno è stata premiata con il Clyde & Co. Award e ha vinto il premio come giovane attivista dell'anno dell'organizzazione Zimbabwean International Women’s Awards.

Nel 2017 ha presentato la sua prima mostra personale, intitolata If you keep going South, you’ll meet yourself , alla Tyburn Gallery di Londra.

Ha partecipato a diverse esposizioni collettive, tra cui si ricordano: Les Ateliers de Rennes – Biennale d’Art Contemporain, a cura di Céline Kopp and Étienne Bernard, Rennes, Francia (2018); Five Bhobh – Painting at the End of an Era, Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town, Sud Africa (2018); Vos désirs sont les nôtres, Triangle France, Marsiglia, Francia (2018); Talisman in the Age of Difference, a cura di Yinka Shonibare MBE, Stephen Friedman Gallery, London, UK (2018); Ladies by Ladies, Espace Art Absolument, Parigi (2018); Afriques: artistes d’hier et d’aujourd’hui, Fondation Clément, Martinique (2018); Discoloured Margins, National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare, Zimbabwe (2017).

Nel 2019 Hwami ha presentato il suo lavoro al Padiglione dello Zimbabwe della 58esima Biennale di Venezia, e ha allestito la sua prima personale in un'istituzione pubblica, Gasworks, a Londra.
