At the same time, the galleries will publish the book that gives the exhibition its title: The continuity of Magdalo Mussio artistic eye curated by Daniela Palazzoli.

Through more than fifty works ranging from the the early 1960's to the early 2000's that cover a large part of his production The continuity of Magdalo Mussio artistic eye introduces the italian artist to the audience. The show traces Mussio's artist path, which has been often hided from the contemporary art scene.

Magdalo Mussio was an eclectic personality. He has worked in several artistic fields, always giving to its activities a personnel and decisive mark.

For example, thanks to his studies and his closeness with McLaren, he worked as a writer, director and set designer of short films, feature films and animated films, as well as editor in chief and editorial manager of the publishing house Lerici, for one of the most important art periodicals in Italy: Marcatrè.

These activities did not take Magdalo's mind from his artistic path that began already in the 1950's under the aegis of one of the greatest Italian poets, Giuseppe Ungaretti. From here, he nourishes his Verbo visual research, which will accompany him for his entire life.

It was precisely Mussio that stated that there was a spontaneous instinct encouraging him to pursue a particular approach. This approach that mixed different disciplines such as writing, graphic drawings, painting, as a kind of diary, is summarized by the artist in Chiarevalli Monodico (1963-1986): “On the edge of the paper I started writing chaotic and thick words. I scraped and brushed covering and hiding them again. Over I wrote the word secret but I wasn't aware of what was written underneath, so that I fell into a pictorial ambiguity”.

Although his research is based on words, Magdalo Mussio's works surprise mostly for the attention to details of the pictorial structure and for the harmonious and innovative usage of materials. The artist shared Umberto Eco's idea: the so-called “Open Work", then he extended it to conceptual art; and it is clear, regarding his works, how they always generates a different story. This makes us understand how Mussio's creative boards were not just made to be looked at but always find the strength to evolve and to connect images with thought.
