Richard MUDARIKI
(Seke, 1985)

Biography

Richard Mudariki ​(b. 1985) trained as an Archaeologist from 2005-2009 and painting at Gallery Delta under the mentorship of renowned artist, Helen Leiros from 2000-2007. Richard’s paintings are a visual comment on various aspects of life in Zimbabwe and on the African continent.

He lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.

 

His recent solo exhibitions include Mubvakure (2019), Gallery Polaris, Paris; Politics of Painting (2019), 1- 54 Contemporary Art Fair, New York, Mawonero Angu (2018), Barnard Gallery, Cape Town, and an early career retrospective tited Mutara Wenguva (TimeLine) at Sanlam Art Collection in Johannesburg and Cape Town, Mudariki has also participated in numerous international art platforms in London, Paris, Cape Town, Milan and New York.

Recent group shows include Artist United (2020), Galerie Polaris, Paris; African Characters (2020), OSART Gallery, Milan; Five Bhob, Painting at the End of an Era (2019) at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town, a travelling exhibition titled Centennial: 100 Years of Collecting from the Sanlam Art Collection (2019) and Filling the Gap (2019) at the South African National Gallery in Cape Town. 

Richard has spoken about his practice to various audiences around the world, recently at 1-54 Contemporary African Art in New York under the title ​Without a name: Living and working in between Spaces​, as well as at a roundtable discussion on African contemporary art and its ecosystem at UNESCO, Paris, as part of their Africa Department Discussions.
