VINCENZO AGNETTI. BEYOND LANGUAGE

In collaboration with Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti

March 23rd - July 21st 2017

EXTENDED TILL JULY 21ST 2017

THE SOLO SHOW DEDICATED

TO VINCENZO AGNETTI

AT OSART GALLERY'S NEW VENUE

The solo show Beyond Language dedicated to Vincenzo Agnetti, held at Osart Gallery's new spaces in Corso Plebisciti 12, Milan, will be extended till Friday 21st July, 2017.

The exhibition, in partnership with Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti (Milan), focuses on the photographic production by Vincenzo Agnetti (1926-1981), one of the most significant Italian artists belonging to the 90's, with a selection of 17 works created between 1973 and 1976, which best represent his conceptual view.

The show is perfectly connected with the essential retrospective, A cent' anni da adesso, curated by Marco Meneguzzo with Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti, that Palazzo Reale (Milan) will host from July 4th to September 24th.

Beyond Language focuses on the scope of the conceptual operations that Agnetti put into effect during his brief but incisive artistic career, as the Project for a political Hamlet (1973), or Discourse n°2 (1974) show. Along with Fragments of Works by Darius (1973), these works are all related to one mechanism constituted of three phases: translation, resetting and reduction.

Language is at the center of Agnetti's attention also in the well-known paper version of Self – Phone Call (1974) where small photographs portraits him in the act of calling himself.

To the translation and reduction practice, also visible in the work-performance Please find enclosed a 30-minute audiotape (1973) he adds the operation the he calls 'static theatre', which has in Elizabeth of England (1976) its most representative expression.

The extraordinary installation Pantheistic project (1973) focuses on another important issue for Agnetti: nature.

In the Entire History of Art is in these Three Works (1973) Agnetti provocatively synthesises his vision of art through the use of three images, two of them refer to the archaic and classical period and an unusual one represents contemporaneity.

An analysis of Vincenzo Agnetti's photographic works can only end with a consideration on the relationship between medium and message. In Free - hand photograph (1974), the artist uses the interrupted process to obtain paradoxical photographs, which are independent form the camera and from the external object being photographed. This cutting-edge intervention takes the name of Free – hand photograph.

A bilingual catalogue (Italian, English) has being released to accompany the exhibition with texts by Bruno Corà and Daniela Palazzoli.
